My uncle was born in Vietnam, where he likely acquired hepatitis B at birth. Later, he ended up passing away in his late 40’s due to related complications with his liver. It saddened me to think that he and his family could have been spared this tragedy if he had had access to the hepatitis B vaccine. I feel strongly that declining or dismissing vaccines is a luxury that most people in the world do not have. Since then, I have expanded my work to include addressing all the issues around viral hepatitis.
I believe the fighting to eliminate hepatitis (both B and C) is really a fight for matter of health equity and also social justice.
