WHA CEO, Cary James appointed as Civil Society Representative to the UHC2030 Steering Committee
World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) CEO, Cary James, has been appointed to the UHC2030 international health partnership steering committee, the global platform building stronger health systems for universal health coverage (UHC). Cary will represent civil society organisations on the steering committee for four years.
On his appointment, Cary James said, “I’m thrilled to be joining the UHC2030 steering committee and representing the important voices of civil society organisations. If we are to achieve the UHC goals of accessible, affordable healthcare to all by 2030, then civil society has an important role to play, both in terms of advocacy and implementation. I look forward to working with the steering committee over the next four years to accelerate progress towards UHC2030.”
Cary has been serving as a member of the UHC2030 Civil Society Engagement Mechanism (CSEM) Advisory Group since 2019. The same year, the United Nations (UN) Political Declaration on UHC was signed at the UN General Assembly. WHA, its members and partners successfully advocated for the inclusion of viral hepatitis in the Political Declaration, marking another vital political commitment towards hepatitis elimination.
