Seeing that liver disease is rampant in this country, the Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Division was established in Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital in 1985 and is directed by professor Wen-Yu Chang, who has been devoted to the prevention and treatment of liver disease and stands in a pioneering position in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Professor Chang, gathering other prominent elites, founded “Taiwan Liver Research Foundation” in 1999. In recent years, the foundation has been devoting itself to the society, providing service and promoting the concept “Prevention Rather than Cure”. On the other hand, the foundation has been helping the Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Division of Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital to do further research on liver disease. By using this medical organization as a platform that combines the efforts from more experts and volunteers, the threat of liver disease to the nation can be diminished and national health and welfare can be achieved.
Objectives:
1. Provide people with knowledge about liver diseases; promote treatment and prevention of liver diseases.
2. Provide checkups and care about unprivileged groups and communities.
3. Encourage and support researchers to involve in prevention and research of liver diseases.
4. Provide a platform for medical institutes and relevant academic institutes to improve the overall medical quality.
