About Japan Society for the Promotion of Hepatitis Measures

“Japan Society for the promotion of anti-hepatitis" was established in December 2012 for the health promotion of Japanese nation through raising awareness and response rate of examination for viral hepatitis.

In Japan, about 40,000 people died in liver disease and in this 40,000 about 35,000 are by liver cancer. This is the 4th biggest number of death in malignant tumors.

At present, it is estimated 3 to 3.7 million people living with chronic viral hepatitis B or C in our country.

Although it is possible to prevent from the progress to serious symptoms, such as liver cirrhosis or liver cancer, by finding in early stage and being treated appropriately, liver is often called silent organ, hardly recognized its disease by symptom, many receive diagnosis after advancing in severity, and having hard time in treatment.

In background, there are problem in low accomplishment of early treatment because of lack of nation’s awareness and low response rate of examination of viral hepatitis.

Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare shows a policy to work on promotion of the prevention of the hepatitis and the early detection (Improvement of the rate of undergoing examinations) with Basic Act on Hepatitis Measures enforced in 2009.

We are aiming health promotion and support hepatitis patients by spreading accurate understanding of chronic viral hepatitis and guiding people to examination, and hoping to lead to the result of prevention from spreads, early detection and early treatment of hepatitis.
